2008 Bikeline Two Day

March 8/9, 2008

Hope (Wales); Mersey Roads Club Promotion
A British Cycling Premier Calendar Event

The opening race of the Premier Calendar season was the two day race in North Wales sponsored by Bikeline. British Cycling was there for both days.

Saturday, March 8 (Prologue & Road Stage)

20080308_Bikeline_Day_1_60Winner of the opening time trial was SiS/Trek rider Ian Wilkinson who last year held the leaders jersey after stage 2. This year in similar conditions to last year, strong cold winds, the field were set off down the undulating lane one by one for the mile long race against the clock. For stage 2, Wilkinson donned the orange Leader jersey which is so coloured because its the race sponsor, Bikeline, corporate colours.

In the first road stage, stage 2, Evan Oliphant was part of a small group that got away with 20k to go and after an attack by Dean Downing with a kilometre to go, Oliphant countered, Dale Appleby attacked him and then as the line approached, Oliphant came back at him and sprinted all the way to the line to gain as many seconds as possible.
