The first Darley Moor event of 2008 welcomed riders with a classic cold, blustery day. The rain held off and we even saw a bit of sunshine in the afternoon. None of this deterred the youngsters who braved the elements to put on a great display of racing. In the 3/4 race, a couple of riders managed to get away and gradually increased their lead to take the top 2 places with a fine win for Matthew Fostun of Sherwood CC. The windy conditions split many riders from the back of main bunch which sprinted for the remaining places.

The E12 race saw a number of attacks in the first few laps, eventually leading to a break of 3. A chasing group of 5 formed and after some hard riding made it across. The resulting break of 8 stayed until the end, just gaining a lap. Only Andy Eagers and Phil Axe were able to leave the main group after this and spent the race on their own between the groups.

With 1+ 1/2 laps to go Andrew Stuart of promoting club , Ashfield RC, attacked from the break but was caught with 1/2 a lap to go just after lapping the main group. Mountain biker David Fletcher of SIS/Trek took the victory, the break filling the next 7 places, Eagers and Axe 9th and 10th and the main bunch sprinting for 11th.  There are 2 more events in March, same race times and format - 8th and 15th March.
