David Millar -- Champion in Road Race and Time Trial

One of the Worlds top time trial riders David Millar now has both the Road Race and Time Trial Champion jerseys and we spoke to him about his next big goal. “The Time Trial Championships was an opportunity to win both jerseys. I have never really had the opportunity to do it because normally the Worlds are on so it was like why not. I really wanted both jerseys”.

On the ProTour Eneco Stage race where he was second, he says “I had good fun at Eneco but was really disappointed to lose which you always are when it is that close but I was beaten fair and square. The form is there and I was the strongest on the hilly days and the first day, if it been harder, I would have been good."

"It’s all boding well for the Worlds which is the big objective. That is one of the reasons I am back here because I want to do some work with Matt Parker (GB Endurance Coach) and use tomorrow as a bit of a simulation for the Worlds.”

Wendy Houvenaghel and David Millar with their jerseys

British road race champion, David Millar and World class pursuiter Wendy Houvenaghel were the big champions today in the 2007 British Time Trial Championships. They were two of many champions crowned on a wet and windy day at Holmes Chapel in Cheshire. Prior to starting, David Millar was well up for the challenge and in the end, won well clear of his nearest challenger, Chris Newton, who took the Silver and Michael Hutchinson. Defending champion Jason MacIntyre  punctured.

L to R: David Millar, Erick Rowsell and Roger Iddles  -- all winners todat in Cheshire.

Great Britain Cycling Teams' ace pursuiter Wendy Houvenaghel was also a convincing winner almost a minute faster than Caroline Kloiber with Houvenaghel's GB teammate Rebbeca Romero in third. There was an upset of sorts in the Junior category when Erick Rowsell won that event ahead of ace Junior and former World Champion Peter Kennaugh. In the Road Race in August Kennaugh had won that with Rowsell winning bronze so today was revenege for Rowsell who has made great progress since joining the talent team a few years ago.

It was also a successful day for Rachel Morris. Last week she won two Gold medals at the Disability World Championships and today, added the British title to that medal collection. More later.

Double World Disablity World Champion Rachel Morris won again today.
