Elite Circuit Race Series 2006

The British Cycling National Elite Circuit Series brings together the best criterium racing (multi-lap Road Racing usually on a short, town centre circuit) in Britain. Series points are awarded for the first 20 riders plus the first three riders in two mid-race sprints.

| Round 12: Travelwise Warwick Town Centre Races 17th of September: |
In one of the country's most historic cities, Warwick, it was fitting that the Kiwi circuit race specialist who shares his name with the famous city won this event in style. Spence won the race after it was clear from the start that tactics were going to play a part with Malcolm Elliott and Rob Hayles both in with a shout of the title. In the end there was controversy and a dramatic mechanical failure in the closing stages. >>>>>

After his 'win' in Glasgow a week before, where he was the first British rider in the wet and dark City Centre race, Plowman Craven's Malcolm Elliott completed the double by winning the London Elite Circuit Series in the shadow of Buckingham Palace to gain maximum points on his rivals. >>>>
| Round 10: Glasgow Grand Prix 28th of August: |
Dane Michael Morkov, riding for Denmark, took the honours in the Glasgow Grand Prix in the heart of Glasgow. In increasingly difficult conditions - it began to rain in the final 10 minutes and finished in almost pitch darkness - the race featured only one significant move when Morkov and Belgian Skil Shimano rider Maarten Tjallingi broke free from the front of the field and stayed away to the end. >>>>.
| Round 9: Rochdale Town Centre Circuit Race 16th of August |
Chris Newton won a rain-drenched Rochdale GP in near darkness, out-sprinting Malcolm Elliott, with whom he had forged a break. Both Newton and Elliott are renowned bike handlers and finishers and with conditions less than ideal their skills came into their own. In-form Kristian House took third, with James Taylor fourth. >>>>
| Round 8: Clitheroe Grand Prix 2nd of August: | When British Cycling's Elite Circuit Series visited Clitheroe, Ben Greenwood of Recycling.co.uk marked his imminent departure to Italy content after a good night's work in the Clitheroe GP. What started out as a crowd-pleasing early break off the front of the field, grew in to an unassailable lead for the former Under 23 Road champion. >>>> |
| Round 7: Colne Grand Prix 19th of July: | The Elite Circuit Race series travelled north to sunny Lancashire for the 7th counting race in this British Cycling prestigious series of 12 where Recycling's Evan Oliphant was the narrow victor from Plowman Craven rider Tony Gibb and Science in Sports Ian Wilkinson in one the most exciting sprint finishes in the series so far. >>>> |
| Round 6: Guildford Town Centre Circuit Race 5th of July: | As town centres go, Guildford has the charm and character to make a great backdrop for a cycle race and when the weather is on your side as well, a great night is assured. And so it was for the sixth round of the Elite Circuit Series held around a testing 600 metre circuit where New Zealand rider Warwick Spence was the victor in a thrilling finish. >>>>

| Round 5: Otley Town Centre Criteriums 28th of June | Russell Downing (DFL) pulled off a fantastic win at the 21st Chevin Cycles of Otley, Otley Cycle Club Town Centre Cycles Races. The Elite race produced the promised exciting spectacle as 91 of the country's top riders battled for a place on the finishing podium. Large crowds gathered on an evening offering perfect clear conditions. >>>> |
| Round 4: Beverley Town Centre Race Friday 23rd June: | The third round in the British Cycling Elite Circuit Series was held in the centre of the picturesque town of Beverley in front of a large crowd. The riders raced around the narrow, historic streets at speed but the fastest of them all in a bunch sprint on the night was former World Champion Rob Hayles (KLR). >>>> | Round 3: Crawley Town Centre Race Wednesday, 7th June: | The third round of the Elite Circuit Series in Crawley Town Centre was certainly an action packed event with attack after attack, crashes, and to then to top it off, a pulsating bunch sprint to decide the race the in near dark conditions. >>>>> | Round 2: Brentwood Town Centre Circuit Races 4th of June: | Mariusz Wiesiak was the winner of the Elite Circuit Series race at Brentwood when the field came together in the last 200 metres and he held off Rob Hayles and James Taylor for a super victory. In the Junior National Series race, Peter Kennaugh was the winner ahead of fellow Isle of Man rider Jonny Bellis. We have full results and first pictures. >>>> | Round 1: Hillingdon GP Criterium 3rd of June: | Eventual series winner, Malcolm Elliott won the opening round of the series, the Hillingdon GP, by a handful of seconds clear of his nearest rival Wiesiak of Poland with Warrick Spence in 3rd. These three were part of six man group that pulled out a big gap between themselves and the chasers led in by Rob Hayles. >>>> Points will be awarded to the first twenty places in each event as follows: 1st 100;2nd 85;3rd 75;4th 66;5th 58;6th 51;7th 45; 8th 39;9th 34;10th 29;11th 25;12th 21;13th 18;14th 15; 15th 12;16th 10; 17th 8;18th 6; 19th 4; 20th 2.
Points (1st 3; 2nd 2 & 3rd 1 ) are awarded on 2 designated sprint laps in each round. Series to be decided on the seven best points tallies achieved by each rider.
