Youth Circuit Race Champs

Youth C, Girls, 20km, (Final)

The first race of the day was the Youth C Girls Championship at 10am and from the sound of the siren and drop of the flag, the riders were up to speed quickly and by the sound of the breathing going up the climb to the 180 degree turn, they were all giving 100 per cent to be champion. For some it wasn't enough as riders one by one, two by two, riders started to drop off the back.

Prominent on the front were the two Milton Keynes girls Emily and Alice Barnes as well as Emma Thompson and eventual winner Lucy Garner. It was an attack from Lucy that saw three riders get away but the rest far from giving up, chased them down and it was soon back together. One rider through who didn't make it back was poor Becci Guymer who was the first of a few crash victims that day and she valiantly chased and chased to try and get back to the front.

More pressure from Lucy saw the lead group dwindle in numbers and then Stephanie May joined in the attacking and she too helped reduce the number of leaders until with three laps to go, Lucy made one final big attack and got away with two of the races other two strong riders, Emily Kay and Emma Thompson chasing her.

No-one was going to catch Lucy however and she crossed the line 18 seconds ahead of the two chasers lead in by Emily Kay with what was left of the leading group 38 seconds back.
