Youth B Girls, 25km, Final
Laura Trott was in a class of her own and lapped the whole field.
After a silver the previous year, Laura Trott dominated her race more than anyone in any other race as she attacked early on, causing the race to split up as she did so, and riding solo, Laura rode away from the rest to lap everybody else in the race.
Her first attack saw two chasers showing their cards, Penny Rowson and Harriet Owen and they were chased hard in turn by another rider, Hannah Barnes, who made contact with them. After a number of laps with Penny and Harriet, Hannah was eventually dropped again as the pace of the race took its toll.
Late in the race, the small group of riders left at the front chasing Laura were joined by the leader who had lapped the field and after a lap or two in the wheels, she again got on the front and yet again dragged Rowson and Owen clear. These three continued to stay away and on the final lap, Laura dropped back off the wheels of Rowson and Owen to let them settle their battle before she crossed the line alone to receive the applause of the crowd for a great ride.
The sprint for second started on the other side of the circuit when Harriet attacked Penny and the Raleigh girl was unable to close the gap down and the Palmer Park young lady won the sprint for Silver with Penny getting a deserved bronze.
Riders line up for the Under 14 Girls
Penny Rowson and Harriet Owen were chasing Laura for a long whilst before being joined by what was left of the chasing bunch and then when Laura caught them and turned on the power, went with her and from that, Harriet attacked with half a lap to go to clinch the silver.
What was left of the leading group at one stage after the high pace saw many riders lapped and pulled out.
Laura Trott was a champion winner today.
