Team Economic Energy Road Race

Eastern Road Race League

25 June 2006, Roxwell, (National C -1/2/3 Category)

20060625_Economic_Energy_01

A full field of 60 riders started the event and only 15 minutes into the race, four riders were in a break and gained a 37 seconds lead over the bunch (Kevin Chambers (API Metro), David McLean (Heron Cyclesport), Shaun Aldous and Glen Stanford (both Interbike/Veloschils). They were working well together to stay away, with their lead increasing to 46 seconds at one point. About 1 hour into the break, two riders bridged across Matthew Rugman  (Kingsnorth Int. Wheelers) and Andrew Griffiths (Glendene/Biketrax).

The 6-man break lasted only 10 minutes as they eased the pace and were caught by the bunch. With less than 2 laps to go, there was another significant break, which resulted in 16 riders gaining up to 64 seconds advantage over the bunch. Another group of riders bridged across on the last lap, all preparing for a bunch sprint of about 25 riders. Andrew Griffiths escaped from this final selection to win by 16 seconds. Ben Price won the sprint for 2nd place with Jan Strapek in 3rd.
