In brief: The heat and hills took their toll on a field of 34 riders in the Reynolds / Michelin women's road race series. The climb up Sunny Bank on the second lap, driven by Amy Hunt (Team GB) forced a lead group of  seven riders. Lap by lap this was whittled down untill on lap four Hunt herself was dropped when Tanja Slater (SIS) upped the pace.

The trio of Slater, Melissa Mather (Team Luciano), and Joanna Rowsell, (VC Londres) completed a lap together only for Slater on the penultimate time up Sunny Bank to to show her full capability and ride away from them to cross the finishing line at the top of the finishing climb 4'33" ahead of Mather, then Rowsell.

Early on, and Tanja is at the front of the bunch.

Amy Hunt driving the group, something she was to pay for later when Slater put the hammer down.

Slater, no doubt using her sponsors products, has a feed at the back of the group whilst Mather leads Lizzy Armitstead and Jo Rowsell.
