Event promoters Inevent are to once again to run the National Cross-Country Mountain Bike Series in 2009.

Inevent previously organised the National Cross Country Series from 2004 to 2007. During that time, they built entry numbers year on year and presented a well organised and enjoyable series of events that proved popular with riders and sponsors alike.

Plans for 2009 are already moving along nicely and there will be a minimum of 4 UCI point scoring races with a Class 1 event at former World Cup venue Newnham Park in September and a return to the popular Margam Park at the end of May.

The big change for 2009 will be a refocussing of efforts to concentrate on Cross-Country as the sport builds towards London 2012. The series will also be working with existing endurance/enduro events to offer riders a quality endurance event on the Sunday leaving Inevent free to focus their efforts more on creating exciting cross country events for riders, spectators and sponsors on the Saturday.

Commenting on the news Martyn Salt of Inevent said: "We were delighted when we were asked to come back into the series and excited about putting on UCI races and bringing in some of the best riders. We are already in negotiations with some overseas teams and riders to get them over to our series. By working in partnership with some of the biggest endurance events in the country we feel we can present an unrivalled weekend package for riders and sponsors and help present the sport as an attractive prospect for spectators. We are keen to freshen up the whole package and hope to have the whole series plan completed by the end of September to give riders plenty of time to make plans for next year."

British Cycling sport and membership director Jonny Clay added: "It's an exciting time for British Cycling and for Cross-Country mountain bike racing. With a home Olympics only four years away, it's important that all cycle sport continues to progress. I am confident that Inevent, with its strong track record, can make that progression in mountain bike events."

Information on the 2009 series will be on www.britishcycling.org.uk as will comprehensive coverage of the events themselves.
