Tracy Moseley, World Number 1 Downhiller

Interview & pics: Joolze Dymond
20060328_tracy_moseley_portrait_200Tracy Moseley has been the UK's first lady of downhill racing for over five years, collecting a series of World Cup wins and national titles along the way. Joolze Dymond caught up with Tracy, currently ranked no.1 in the UCI rankings, as she prepared for her second race of the season.

Is your pre-season training going to plan?
"It's going pretty good. I've taken a different approach to my training this year. I used to be coached by the Carmichael Training Systems in the States, but decided that as I'm not in the States too much and training by email can be a bit dodgy - I can say I've done a section when I haven't - I'd try something more local to home."

"Now I work with a personal trainer at my local gym: each session is varied, and that keeps me interested and motivated. One day it might be core work the next indoor climbing. Plus I'm doing a lot more running and riding my XC bike and enjoying what I'm doing. I've never been a fan of training for training's sake. It's a bit of a gamble, but I'm keen to see how it pans out."

Tracy and Kona, a proven combination

What are you riding this year?
"It's a Kona Stab Supreme, but it's a completely different bike to the one I rode last year. It's a prototype and won't be available for the general public until 2007. The Maxis Cup is the first time I've ridden it and first impressions are good. It's very different to ride from my old bike, but I'm really excited to see how I adapt to it."

What are your major goals this year?
"I still want to win the World Cup. I got 2nd last year, my closest yet, so I'm hoping I can do better this year. Also I'm going to aim for the World Champs. Usually I view it as just another race on the circuit that happens at the end of the year but I want to change that and make it a real focus for me this year."

"I definitely be at the National Champs, but don't think I'll be able to ride many of the NPS as these clash with international duties, but if I can, I might just pitch up."

Any changes to your sponsorship for 2006?
"No it's pretty much the same team, same sponsors, and same format. It works for me and I'm happy with it!"

Good luck in 2006 Tracy and thanks for your time!
