World Cup: Tracy Wins As Rachel Closes on Series Title
UCI MTB World Cup
Canberra, Australia, 30-31 August 2008
Tracy Moseley
The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup moved on to a six race weekend in Canberra, Australia. As we've come to expect over the years, the British Downhillers were in the thick of the action and took their share of the spoils.
In the Women's Downhill, there was a celebration for Tracy Moseley as she took her second race win of the season, with runner-up Rachel Atherton taking a big step towards her first World Cup series title. Rachel is set to be the third Brit after Tracy and Steve Peat to take an MTB World Cup title - often considered more difficult to win than a world championship, requiring, as it does, a season-long consistency over a range of courses. Rachel, of course, won the world title earlier this year, and has firmly established herself as the best rider in the world this year. Meanwhile, Tracy and last year's series winner Sabrina Jonnier lie in wait should Rachel slip up at the last round, in Austria 13-14 September.
Rachel Atherton
You can read Tracy's account of the race on www.tracymoseley.com - meanwhile Fionn Griffiths finished the race in fourth and is fifth in the series.
In the Men's Downhill, South Africa's Greg Minnar continued his late season run of form and took the race and is now odds on for the series wins. Gee Atherton was the best Brit on the day, taking third, and is now 3rd in the series. Steve Peat is now fourth in the series after 7th on the day.
We've got a full round-up of the Canberra results and series standings, including 4-Cross and Cross-Country below.
