Preview: Round 3

The decision to put the third round of the Freerange Optics 4-Cross series back two weeks in search of a dry track was vindicated by excellent under-wheel conditions and warm, dry weather at the Bridgnorth venue. Jamie Watts was the photographer on hand to capture the action for us. Check out the four galleries, linked above, plus shots below.

In the 12-17 Novice category Rich Robertshaw went through the day unbeaten, pipping George Smith in the final. In the 18 plus Novices, Mike Webb also had a win-filled day, taking all his four motos, his semiand going on to beat Sean Hanson into second in the final.

The Juvenile category produced something of an upset in the final with the previously unbeatable Ryan Russell having to give best to Mike Yard. Adam Thomas took third, having won the ride-ff to reach the final. Suzanne Lacey was fourth.

A fourteen rider Youth category was dominated once again by Bernard Kerr, who, apart from an aberration in his second moto, was untouchable. Ryan Vinyard was second, Scott Roberts third and Tom Knight fourth.

The Junior category is always one of the most competitive and Bridgnorth seemed to bring out the best in a number of riders. Tom Dowie and Martin Wetherelt both won three motos and cruised into the final. However, there they had to give best to Pat Campbell Jenner, who got better as the day went on - having won only one moto, he took his semi and then followed up with victory in the final.

The 24 rider Senior category produced some superb racing, with no rider really dominating and the final was paticularly hard to call. In the event James Chadwick took it from Tom Burch, with James Wilson third and Mick Ridgeway fourth.

Ian Hopkins was in greta form in the Masters, winning all four of his motos, the semi and final, pipping Darren Howarth in the process. Dominic Bent was third and Dave Garland fourth.

Scott Beaumont was a man on a mission in the Elite category and he was just about unbeatable, though Lewis Lacy, Daniel Yeomans and defending series champion Martin Ogden (pictured above) all riding brilliantly as they attempted to catch the Rocky Mountain rider. However, Beaumont always seemed to have an extra bit in reserve and he went on to win the final from Lacey, Yeomans and Ogden.
