Olympic cyclist gets compensation for road accident

5th September 2003
GB Cycling Team member Paul ManningSubstantial compensation has been recovered on behalf of Paul Manning (pictured), Olympian and member of the GB Cycling Team. The compensation was for injuries sustained from a road accident and for the resulting loss of opportunity. The accident happened only six weeks before the World Championships in Antwerp in August 2001 and meant that he was unable to compete in the Individual Pursuit.

In addition to the blow of being unable to compete in this event, Paul was also unable to train properly prior to the Championships. His resulting lack of performance also contributed to the GB Team failing to achieve a Gold Medal in the Team Pursuit event.

Failure to achieve Gold in the Individual Pursuit event, which leading opinion in the sport expected him to win, resulted in considerable loss of opportunity both in respect of his profile at that time and commercial and sponsorship contracts.

Paul was represented by Sue Bence, partner in the cycling team at Leigh Day & Co..
