Champion cyclist is compensated for road rage injuries

Cyclist in training

4th August 2004

The Director of the very successful M.I. Race Team and three times World Masters Cyclo-Cross champion, Mick Ives, has received compensation for a road rage incident in December 2001, which left him and a team mate injured.

Mick was out cycling with a group of riders, including M.I. Racing’s Barrie Mitchell, when a motorist overtook the group of cyclists blaring his horn. The driver then swerved in front of the group, bringing his car to an abrupt halt.

Mick, Barrie and the group of cyclists all felt that the driver did this deliberately and that he intended to intimidate them and cause a hazard. Mick and Barrie were forced to swerve and they were both injured in the incident.

Mick was represented by Sue Bence, the partner responsible for Leigh Day & Co.’s cycle team.
