Racing cyclist gets damages for pothole accident

The pothole, taken on the day of the accident

28th April 2004

Successful racing cyclist, David Farrer, has agreed a figure for damages in his case against North Yorkshire County Council. David was injured when his bike hit a pothole while he was out training with his fellow Marie Curie team members in April 2001.

The Council maintained throughout that the pothole which caused David’s accident could not have existed due to earlier repair works. The pothole (pictured) was recorded by him and various witnesses on the day the accident happened.

David was represented by lawyer Sue Bence, partner in Leigh Day & Co..
