Success for British Cycling Member
British Cycling member, Richard Allen has successfully concluded his claim for personal injury compensation arising from a road traffic accident on 7 December 2005.
Richard's accident occurred as he was cycling along Westwood Avenue, Lowestoft, at approximately 8.45am and a third party motorist travelling in the opposite direction along Westwood Avenue, suddenly turned right, cutting directly across his path. A collision subsequently occurred and Richard was thrown from his bicycle, consequently suffering injury to his right ankle and hand. Richard's bicycle was also damaged as a result of this accident.
The third party insurers admitted liability for this accident and an offer to settle Richard's claim was advanced in the absence of a medical report. A counteroffer was submitted on Richard's behalf, with a view to achieving an early settlement, however the third party insurers refused to increase their offer.
An orthopaedic Consultant was subsequently instructed to provide a medico-legal report, which we are pleased to confirm led to a much improved settlement being achieved for Richard.
Richard was represented by Anna Hart, Assistant to Sue Bence, in Leigh Day & Co's Cycling and Sports Injuries Team. His claim was supported and funded by British Cycling.
