Event: Bike Blenheim Palace 28th September 2008

20080512_bike_blenheim_palaceSunday September 28th 2008 sees an exciting new event for cycling enthusiasts and families alike. Blenheim Palace, in conjunction with British Cycling, is opening the magnificent Park to cycling for the first time.

Set in 2,100 acres of stunning parkland in the heart of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, the event starts with a competitive focus. It kicks off with a 20km Time Trial which is open to seasoned and first time trialists alike. The focus then turns to an Elite cycling race organised by British Cycling. Take part or come along and watch, as first time racers through to elite cyclists have the opportunity to tackle the oak lined roads of Blenheim Park.

Following the speed and the excitement of the races, the day then becomes family oriented as for the first time ever cycle access around the beautiful Blenheim Estate is being made available to the general public. Enjoy the challenge of one of three planned routes of varying distances which take you through some of the spectacular landscaped parkland that has helped Blenheim Palace achieve its World Heritage status.

20080428_BROMPTON_FOLDING_200X200In addition to this Bike Blenheim Palace is pleased to announce that it will be holding the Brompton World Championships, which are coming to England for the first time. First held in 2006, in Barcelona, Brompton Bikes are bringing their World Championships back to the UK where the iconic bike is designed and hand-built. This is a sight not to be missed. See up to 1,000 competitors, from all over the world race around the beautiful Queens Pool in their Jacket and Ties. This is a competitive cycling challenge with a sense of humour!

The day will be based around an event village where all the cycling routes will start and finish from. Here, in addition to being a place to relax and enjoy some food and drink prior to or following the cycling, there will be the opportunity to wander around various stalls and exhibits, as well as watch some amazing demonstrations take place in the main arena. The programme of events for the arena includes vintage bikes, unicycling, bike polo, a mountain bike stunt team, and cycle skills for children plus many other fun activities, all of which will add to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the day.

Challenge yourself to cycle the longest distance, or just enjoy a short leisurely ride with the children; chat to bike enthusiasts or sit back and watch some bikes from days gone by; from the speed of the Elite racers to the stunning scenery and elegance of Blenheim Palace this is an event that will be enjoyed by everyone.

In addition the event this is a perfect opportunity to visit the unique Palace, the exciting visitor experience 'Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story' and stunning Formal Gardens.
