Former GB rider Sara Symington hopes to lead Great Britain's archers to success at the London Games after being appointed performance director of Archery GB.
The 39-year-old, who was a member of Britain's cycling team at both the Sydney and Athens Olympics, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked closely supporting world-class programmes, performance directors, athletes and coaches in her previous role as performance advisor within UK Sport's performance directorate.
"This is a really exciting challenge and I am looking forward to working closely with all those staff and athletes within the performance unit to deliver medal success at 2012 and beyond," said Symington, who will start her new role next month.
"I will be working closely with everyone at the performance unit to make sure that our archers can continue to assert themselves at the highest level of competition, and hopefully moving up to even higher levels of performance, consistency and achievement."
Sara was 6th in the Sydney Olympic Road Race and won several stages of international Road Races during a successful career. She came to cycling relatively late, having started as a triathlete, but made an immediate impact and was a fine all-round rider with an excellent sprint. She has competed in several Cyclo-Cross races this winter, including the Three Peaks, which she completed in under four hours. She is pictured in action at the Mallory Park National Trophy event.
