Dave Brailsford Honoured By the City

British Cycling's Performance Director, Dave Brailsford has received the Panasonic Toughbook Sports Leader of the Year award at the ICAP Square Mile Sport Awards 2008, where City executives vote for their favourite sporting heroes of the last twelve months . The news was announced at a star-studded ceremony on Thursday 27th November.

Now in their third year, the ICAP Square Mile Sport Awards is the first major sports awards to review the year. Over the past month, employees within the Square Mile have been logging on to www.squaremilesport.com to vote in their thousands.

The City voted in five primary categories - ICAP Sportsperson of the Year; G4S Young Sportsperson of the Year; Panasonic Toughbook Sports Leader of the Year; Virgin Active Sports Team of the Year; and, new for 2008, the Betfair Sporting Moment of the Year.

Chris Hoy and Rebecca Romero were also amongst the nominees, losing out to Lewis Hamilton in the Sportsperson of the year award category. Meanwhile, the GB Olympic team as a whole took the Sports Team of the Year award.
