GB Team Selection - 2008 European Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships

 

The European Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships take place this year in St Wendel, Germany from 16th to 18th May.

A Great Britain representative team will be competing in the European Championships. There are events in the categories of Junior men, Junior women, U23 men and U23 women, Elite men and Elite women as well as a Team Relay.

This year selection for a Great Britain team for the European Championships is driven by both the need to provide young developing riders with exposure to competition at a Major Area Championships alongside a need to utilise UCI point scoring opportunities in the elite and U23 categories in order to enhance Great Britain?s opportunity of qualifying nation places for the London 2012 Olympic Games. This falls in line with the 2012 Great Britain qualification strategy.

Selection for the European Championships will be made after the 27th April on a discretionary basis taking into consideration a rider's age, experience, international and domestic results and UCI ranking. All selections are made by a selection panel chaired by the Performance Director. A minimum of two further selection panel members are nominated by the Performance Director, who may include but are not restricted to Performance Manager, Senior Management Team members, coaching staff and expert advisers.
