Double World Champion for Great Britain in Hand Cycling, Rachel Morris, has picked up a top award, winning the Best Newcomer 2007 Award at the Wheelchair Sports Awards held at the Madejski Hotel in Reading. It rounds off what has been a great year for Rachel after she won the European Cup Overall Series, UCI World Time Trial and Road Race Championships as well as the British National Time Trial Champs.

Handcyclist Rachel Morris, in only her first year of competition has already achieved the remarkable title of double World Champion. Rachel has worked hard on adapting to the skills required in this new sport for her and through dedicated training has proven that she is a World Class Performer.

The British Wheelchair Sports Awards 2007 are aimed at recognising the achievements of people in the world of wheelchair sport. The awards are not necessarily given for individual prowess but also for loyal, selfless work which enables others to experience fulfilment and enjoyment in sport. Rachel's category, Best Newcomer, is awarded for an athlete who shows outstanding promise or potential to become an International/Paralympic participant and who has shown their dedication to training and commitment in results to date.

There was also more reason for the Great Britain Paralympic team to cheer this week when Anthony Kappes and Barney Storey won the BBC North West Disability Athlete of the Year Award. Our congratulations to all these GB members.
