Rik Waddon Diary
Story posted August 16:
By Rik Waddon (GB Disability Team Rider)
Well with all the training done, it’s off to the World Championship in Bordeaux where I will be competing in the track events first, then the road events a few days after.
It’s been a funny sort of season, because from the start of the year everything was geared towards the track, which goal wise it still is! But for some strange reason my road time trailing legs have come back to me, and I now find myself doing these extra events, which is great!
Right: Rik in action at Manchester in May.
We had a great racing competition Down Under in Sydney on the track in February which was followed the Newport Grand Prix (May) and then onto the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester (also May) where I found myself back in the team sprint at a major competition.
This gave me a big boost for the rest of my training up until the World Championship team sprint selection which I was selected for just last week. This is my 8th season riding for GB, and this year sees the biggest team we have had going to the Worlds since I first started. Each year the standard keeps moving on at World Level and hopefully this year we will see some really outstanding rides and performances from both GB riders and the other nations…
GB Team Sprint: Jody Cundy, Rik Waddon and Darren Kenny...
Well I’ve had to keep this one short, because am scooting of to the airport now to catch my flight, but if you would like to follow our progress then stay tuned to BritishCycling.org.uk from the 19th to the 27th august.
