UCI Track World Cup (Beijing)
Round 2, Beijing (China), December 7-9, 2007
One of the most important World Track Cups for teams is the one in Beijing which gives the competing teams a chance to race on the Velodrome to be used for the 2008 Olympic Games. After a good start in Sydney, the Great Britain team boosted their line up with more riders coming into the Team for the second round of the World Track Cup, an important step in qualifying for the Olympic Games. After three days of competition there were three Gold, four Silver and a Bronze medal for the team. Next stop for the Track World Cup is Los Angeles in January(18-20) next year.
Day 1 Friday, 7th of December
Medal Feast for Britain in Beijing -- One Gold (Wiggins), Three Silver (Romero, Pendleton and Newton) and a Bronze (Team Sprint) on day one of the UCI World Track Cup was just the tonic the team needed as they get going in their World Track Campaign.
Day 2 Saturday, 8th of December
Day 2 and two Gold medals for the Great Britain Cycling team after Chris Hoy showed yet again what great form he has with his second World Cup victory in as many meetings and the same for the GB Team Pursuit squad. With both events being Olympic events, the importance of these victories cannot be underestimated.
Day 3 Sunday, 9th of December
The final day at the Beijing Track World Cup was full of drama. The British team came away with a single medal, Silver won by Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish in the Madison. Victoria Pendleton was denied Gold by being taken out in a crash in the Women’s Keirin final whilst in the Men’s sprint, GB had to be content with three of the four places in the minor final.
