Women's Scratch Race Report
A big crowd came in to watch the night's racing.
Podium: Maria Luisa Calle WIlliams (2nd), Yumari Gonzalex Valdivieso (1st) and Adrie Visser (3rd)
The Women's Scratch race was closely contested throughout with an unusually high pace for what is often a highly tactical race. It all came down to the last couple of laps and in a finish similar to the Men's race, Yumari Valdivieso of Cuba broke clear with a burst of pace and held off the field to win by several lengths from Columbia's Williams. Rebecca Quinn of the USA was originally credited with third, but was relegated to last for a technical infringement in the final sprint.
GB's 18 year old Welsh rider Katie Curtis rode a very assured race on her World Championships debut and looked very comfortable in the later stages, getting herself into excellent positions and clearly having a game plan. In the end it didn't quite come off for her, but eighth place was an excellent performance.
