20070331_pendleton_sprint_200Evening Session:

Victoria Pendleton (left) was in peerless form as she swept to victory in the Women's Sprint, simply destroying her opponents, including China's Guo in the final. It was GB's fifth gold medal of the Championships.

In the Men's Sprint, Craig MacLean and Ross Edgar contested a close quarter final, with MacLean going through to Sunday's Semi Finals, where he will meet last year's champion, Theo Bos.

Shanaze Reade gave the big stars a wake-up call in her first 500m Time Trial, taking a hugely impressive fifth on her debut in the event. Anna Meares smashed the world record in winning. Juan Llanares was an emotional winner of the Points Race for the fourth time.

Morning Session:

The third morning of the Championships saw the sprinters in action, with Victoria Pendleton (pictured) going through to the Final of the Women's Sprint. In the men's competition, Craig MacLean and Ross Edgar will meet in the Quarter Finals after both made steady progress through qualifying and the early rounds.

There was a surprise in the qualification round of the Men's Points Race when GB's Chris Newton, champion back in 2002, failed to make the final.
