Men's Points race
Juan Llaneras leads the bunch past his fan club after taking another lap, this time on his own -- one feels he was riding with the strength of two out there such was his domination.
Medals, tears and plenty of emotion on the podium as Llaneras posed for the worlds press with Ilio Keisse (left, 2nd) and a rider who has made a big splash on the road this year, Russian Olympic Champion Mikhail Ignatiev, who showed yet again he is a force to be reckon with on the track.
Final
In the Points Race 37 year old Juan Llaneras took a hugely emotional win in front of his home crowd. Perhaps the greatest Points rider of all time, Llanares took his fourth win in this event with a very impressive display that left the result in little doubt from the half way stage onwards.
Of course, Llanares's victory was all the more emotional coming as it did only months after the tragic death of his Madison partner Isaac Galvez and the Spaniard was in tears as he crossed the line.
It was an incredible race with action non-stop from the gun. Llanares built his win on taking three laps over the field, an awesome performance in such a competitive field. Runner-up Ilio Keisse scored well in the sprints but missed the big moves and only took one lap. Young Russian Olympic Champion Mikhail Ignatiev was third.

Qualifying: Chris Newton, world champion back in 2002, went out of the Points Race competition, failing to qualify from the second heat and leaving GBR without a representative in the final.
Chris gets a 'fan' to help him keep cool before the start.
Chris gave it everything in the sprints but was unable to dominate them like we have seen him do so on the past.
