Women's Sprint
Saturday
Victoria proudly shows off her rainbow jersey...
Evening Session: Victoria simply blew Shuang Guo away in the first heat of the women's sprint final, passing her as though she was standing still. Surely Guo had more to offer, but the second heat went exactly the same way with Pendleton clearly in a class of her own. It was a totally convincing win and one which reinforces the impression of having moved up a level that Pendleton gave at the Manchester World Cup in February.
At no time in the competition did Pendleton appear likely to lose a single heat and the final was one of the most one-sided there can ever have been. Menawhile, in the ride-off for bronze Anna Meares was too strong for Lisa Rodriguez.

Victoria Pendleton: “I feel like I deserve this title!. I took confidence in having beaten her before but I definitely didn’t take it for granted and was focused on what I wanted to do. I have demons with certain riders I guess, and then there are other people I am more confident with so I went in quite confident.”
“On the success by the athletes in GB, she says, “its brilliant isn’t it. Winning medals now is expected.” Victoria then apologised if the sprinting looked boring as she dispensed with her opponents with ease.
On whether there was a specific round that was more difficult than any other, Victoria said “I think Tsylinskaya. Although I knew looking at her 200 metre times she wasn’t going as fast as usual, obviously she is one of the strongest sprinters around, a multiple world champion, and so for me to come up against her in the earlier rounds was quite tough as it was a ride I expected to do in a final, not in an early round.”
“The last few years have seen a gradual progression and I have an amazing support team about me now. Jan van Eijden is my coach, the sports scientists at the EIS all working to help us to give us every possible chance in every area. With Beijing to come the main goal, I’ll keep working to cut my times down and do my very best as its only next year. Its nice to have this under my belt now to give me the confidence.”
“Two events, two golds, its great. I’ll just try hard tomorrow to see what I can do. I feel great and everyone is the same boat so we’ll see what happens”.

Morning Session: Victoria Pendleton breezed into the final of the Women's Sprint competition by disposing of Lisa Rodrigue of Cuba in two straight rides. In the final, this evening, she'll meet Shuang Guo of China who had to come back from losing the first heat to beat Anna Meares 2 heats to one.
Victoria cruised past the Cuban rider enroute to the final for Gold and now meets the girl she beat in Manchester, Guo of China.

Friday
Evening Session: Vicky Pendleton made relatively untroubled progress through to the semi-finals. She took her first quarter-final heat with some great tactical riding, winning by a length from Natallia Tsylinskaya who tried everything she could to usettle Vicky. The second heat was a lot easier as Vicky simply rode away from the defending champion, who appeared to accept that she was up against a better rider!
Morning Session: Vicky Pendleton made untroubled progress through to the Quarter Finals of the Women's Sprint, beating team-mate Anna Blyth on the way. Blyth then just failed to go through in the Repechages. Earlier, Pendleton had qualified third fastest and Blyth tenth.
