Evening Session

Two more gold medals for GB took the team's tally to four in just two days. The second evening of the World Championships saw the GB Team Pursuit squad smash the national record again as they took an emphatic win over Ukraine.

Rebecca Romero couldn't quite get on terms with Sarah Hammer in the Women's Pursuit final, but her silver medal will have given her great pleasure. Wendy Houvenaghel just missed out on the bronze medal.

Then Chris Hoy showed what a great all-round sprinter he now is by winning the Keirin world title with a brilliant and commanding show in both the second round and final. Ross Edgar also rode really well to pick up the bronze.  Jonny Bellis finished 14th in the Scratch Race.

Meanwhile, Vicky Pendleton made rapid progress through her sprint quarter final and is through to the last four - the event is completed on day 3.

Morning Session

The GB Team Pursuit quartet delivered another sub-four minute time as they qualified fastest and go into a ride-off for gold against the Ukraine, who recorded a time some five and a half seconds slower. Following on from their great rides at the Manchester World Cup, the team certainly seem to have stepped up a level and now rank alongside the great Aussie and German teams of recent years.

But Rebecca Romero's sensational new national record in the Women's Pursuit eclipsed even the Team Pursuiters' efforts as the former rower qualified a close second behind defending champion Sarah Hammer of the USA, against whom she will contest the ride off for gold. Wendy Houvenaghel qualified fourth and will have a shot at the bronze medal.

In the Women's Sprint, Vicky Pendleton qualified third fastest and Anna Blyth tenth after the opening 200m Time Trial. However, although Pendleton continued to progress, Blyth was knocked out of the competition by her team-mate at the 1/8 finals stage and just failed to come back in the Repechage.

The men's Keirin saw both Chris Hoy and Ross Edgar make progress into the evening's second round. Meanwhile, Jonny Bellis qualified for the final from the first heat of the Scratch Race.
