Report: GB Paralympic Team in Australia - Part 4

Posted 5 Feb 2007

Report & Pics - Team Manager Dave Mellor

Australian Open Track National Championships, Sydney

Straight off the back of a very hard two week block of training in Bendigo is possibly not the best preparation for a Track competition but I am very pleased to say that today we have come away with 5 Gold Medals out of the 7 events that we competed in. There were no World Record times and the competition was a little closer in time than normal, but we delivered. Barney Storey possibly summed the day up when he said that he had never ridden a Kilo in February before and would never do so again! - "we just never got up to speed, we had plenty of Endurance and our splits are probably going to show we did not fade at all but there was no top end" said the Sprint Tandem pilot.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, sees the Endurance Solo riders, Sarah Bailey, Darren Kenny and in action in the 3km and 4km Pursuits.
