20060723_Jun_Keirin_58Final
This was all Jason Kenny and although Josh Hargreaves challenged for a medal, he was unlucky to just miss out in finishing fourth whilst his teammate, raced across the line clear of any rival, arm aloft and champion for the third time in the championship with three Golds and one silver to his name. A pretty impressive performance from the young sprinter.

Jason Kenny: "Since last year, I seem to have learnt a lot and that's helped my racing. Today, I think the week was also catching up with me as my legs were getting heavier and my attacks were getting weaker and weaker. We had a plan at the start of competition to attack and then sit up and do enough to win and then in the final, attack and carry it to the end which I did but it was hurting a lot by the time the final came round".

"I held myself back from coming into these championships too excited about what I would do. I knew I would be up there as we have done some smaller European events in Austria and Gent and I did pretty well. But you never know."

Josh Hargreaves: "its been a really good experience and unfortunate I didn't get on the podium. I had done pretty well in the heats and to get caught on the outside corner was disappointing. I hope to build on this for the future and I now know where I stand".

20060723_Jun_Keirin_53

1-2 for GB in the second round as they both beat the World Champion from the host country who was less then friendly off the track to our new world junior stars. Food for the Worlds no doubt.

2nd ROUND
In the second round of the Junior Keirin we had two riders, Josh Hargreaves and Jason Kenny. When the move came from Jason Kenny round the outside, Josh was already on the front as Jason hit the front, Josh was already squeezing out the Greek World Champion and pulling in behind his teammate to try and make it though to the final. Into the home straight for the final time and Josh came around his teammate to draw level with his rear wheel and at the same forcing the world champion wide to give GB a 1-2 in the match.

HEATS
Heat 1
Joshua slotted in second from the back, and after the derny pulled off bided his time until the final but one lap when he made his move into the back straight coming around the whole group to lead as they came through for the bell lap and managing to keep his head in front all the way to the home straight where he eased across the line in second place ahead of the World Champion from Greece.

Heat 2
In this race was Jason Kenny, who slotted into the third from back position at the start and kept his place whilst others could be seen looking for him. With the derny having pulled over, the field was lead over the line with two to go by the Russian rider. Into the next turn and Jason who had been giving himself some room in the line, then made his move and no-one was able to stop him as he thundered to the front, kept his position for the next lap and a half to win his heat and go through to the semi final.
