Day 5 (Sunday, July 23)

Day 5Thanks to a victory by Jason Kenny, the Great Britain Cycling Team added another Gold medal to its tally today to make it at least one Gold for every day of the championship. The Gold came in the Men's Junior Keirin when he made it look easy.

That was the only medal but there were other events where we were unlucky not to get more and to top off a great week for the Team, they won Best Nation for Juniors, doing what no other country has done before where they scored in every event. So the final word must go to the riders and staff of Team GB - Well done one and all!. >>>>>

Day 4 (Saturday, July 22)

GBDay 4 of the European Championships and the Great Britain riders did the country proud again. Jason Kenny was superb in the Junior Mens sprint, recording times quicker than the Under 23's on his way to a Gold medal and just to underline how special our young sprint squad is, Christian Lyte won the bronze medal.

Then, in the Under 23 Mens Scratch race, Ben Swift and Geraint Thomas were awesome in a race that was the best spectacle so far with attack after attack. And if having an entertaining race wasn't enough for us, Geraint Thomas added to his Gold medal in the Team Pursuit with a Silver medal in the event tonight. >>>>

Day 3 (Friday, July 21)

TPFor the third day in a row, the Great Britain team came away with a Gold medal and plenty of optimism of more to come. The Under 23 Team Pursuit riders performed magnificently as they were head and shoulders above the rest from Europe as they won the Gold medal for us whilst in the Junior Sprint, Christian Lyte and Jason Kenny are both showing good form as they move on to the semi finals in that event tomorrow. >>>>

Day 2 (Thursday, July 20)

20060720_Euros_125Gold, Silver, and Bronze three medals from two events for Great Britain what was quite a day for the team. Anna Blyth showed what an astute sprinter she is now as she dealt well with her Polish rival for the Bronze medal in the Junior Womens Sprint whilst David Daniell was in tears after he surprised even himself in winning the Junior Mens Kilometre from Jason Kenny in a GB 1-2.

A special mention as well for Jo Rowsell who got of her sick bed and recorded a personal best and national record in finishing 5th in the Junior Women's Pursuit with Lizzie Armitstead in 7th. Learn more. >>>>

Day 1 (Wednesday, July 19)

Day 1Today at the Athens Olympic Velodrome was an example of the difference success and no success makes to a teams morale during a major championship. Two Gold medals in the Junior Team Sprint and Team Pursuit were major highlights and nobody should underestimate how great these victories were as the other countries are every bit as 'tooled' up as we are but lacking that something the GB programme has that breeds success. Preview: News & Interviews

Competing in Athens will be probably the largest squad of British riders ever sent to a championships, 24 riders in all, and for them it is a vital steppingstone towards their ambitions to represent Great Britain at the next two Olympic Games in Beijing and London. For the Olympic Academy Under 23 Endurance riders, it's the biggest goal of the year as they come back from a road season in Italy and look to find their track legs and Gold medals in Athens.

For the Juniors, the event is a chance for the riders to show themselves in a major competition, whilst also providing them valuable experience prior to the Junior World Championships in August. Larry Hickmott is with the team and has a report on their preparations, interviews with some of the riders and will also be in Athens to report back on how they all go in the heat of competition.
