Photos from the worlds

Here is a living memory of what was a memorable week for the Great Britain team.  Looking back, it was a better Championship than it felt at the time and we can only imagine what the camp atmosphere would have been like had we turned the Silver's into Gold and the three fourth places had been medal positions. That, is as they say though, ifs and buts and this gallery is a record of the week that was in Bordeaux France.

Note: Prints & Hi-res images. Those who would like prints of this event, email me the reference that is on the top of each image in a gallery and I will prepare for printing and email you back how you can order it. Media only -- if you require high resolution images, email me a request to me with the reference.

Photography Shooting Data

General Settings: ISO of between 800 or 1600. The stadium which had a fair amount of window space was lit by outside light as well as track lighting but at night (after 6ish) it was quite dark on the track. Shutter speeds were between 100th for wide angle motion blur shots and 500th for the long focal length images. In general, as the light was changing inside the stadium depending on whether the sun was in or out, the shutter speeds varied between 320 and 500th on the D1H equipped with an 80-200 mm AFS lens.

Podiums: These were shot using either the Nikon D200 with an 18-70mm lens or the D1H for close ups of the riders, either on their own or in groups of three.

Action:

Wide Angle, Most, except for the fish eye images, were done with the Canon 1DMK11 and the rest done with the Nikon 1DH. When asked by several shooters there why two different makes of cameras, it is down to striving to finding a camera that can match the D1H. One that can track fast moving subjects in poor light and as yet, I haven't found one that has the colour of the Nikon 1H and the auto focus tracking ability in poor light. The Nikon isn't perfect, but the Canon is worse - or at least that has been my experience. The wide angle shots are manually focused.
