Interview: England's Amy Hunt

Commonwealth Games Features Home Page

bio_Hunt_Amy_HS_200One of the youngest riders in the England team will be Amy Hunt, the British Circuit Race champion. Amy will be riding the Road Race at the Commonwealth Games and is already busy preparing in the international road races taking place in Melbourne right now.

Unlike a lot of the team, Amy has not had a lot of experience in major events until now although she has done quite a few internationals in Europe as well as the Youth Commonwealth Games two years ago. Is she nervous then I asked? "A bit. With Charlotte and me riding for the Safi team in the races over here before the Games, we should be well prepared for the Games. It will be the biggest event I have done before but then riding two World Road Cups (Geelong/Wellington) before is also something I haven't done before as well so I am slightly nervous but at the same time, really looking forward to it."

Amy flew out to Australia mid February with other riders in the Great Britain and England team and says of the preparation time they are getting in Oz "it's useful so we can get over the jet lag with plenty of time before our events. It also gives us time to get used to the weather which is a bonus although its not too bad in Melbourne at the moment. Not too much of a shock! And being able to ride some Women's UCI races in before the Games will be great preparation."

Amy has already ridden a stage race in Geelong and the World Cup there and will be doing the same again shortly New Zealand. In the meantime, Amy will continue to take advantage of the good weather and the quiet roads where she is in Victoria to continue her Games preparation and we wish her the best of luck for the road race in a months time. Thanks Amy!
