North of England Cyclo-Cross Championships

New Date: January 3rd

Venue: Hetton Lyons Country Park
Organisers Keith Murray & Cliff Featherstone

North of England Cyclo-Cross Champs at Hetton Lyons (3rd Jan 2009)

The North of England Cyclo-Cross Championship races will now take place at Hetton Lyons on Saturday 3rd Jan 2009 and will replace the planned league event on Sunday 4th Jan 2009. The NECCA has decided that should anyone (from any area) who wishes to ride/any rider who had not pre entered the original event, then this is possible if they send an entry to arrive by 24th Dec.

Only those who had pre entered the original event may win the North of England Championships/Awards/Prizes. Entry on the day will not be possible, except for Under 12's.

All timings etc are the same & the venue is still Hetton Lyons Country Park. The race organiser on the day will be Ian Spencley, any questions regarding these new arrangmets can be directed to Keith Murray until 24th December: keith.murray@scott-sports.uk.com 07793652198 or 01325 362390.

Entries to: Keith Murray, 5 Portreath Court, Darlington, Co Durham, DL3 0ZG, (Entry fee £10.00 Cheques to NECCA). After that please contact Ian Spencely 0776 6740 154

Any riders who now can not, or do not want to compete on 3rd Jan 2009, may apply for a partial refund of their entry fee (less expenses already incurreed by the organisers) by sending an SAE to: Ian Spencley, North of Endland CX Champs, 17 Park Rd, Jarrow, Tyne & Wear, NE32 5JA. Please allow 21 Days for this to be processed.
NECCA look forward to seeing you on 3rd Jan 2009.

Postponed!

It is with regret that following the recent bad weather in the North East of England that the NECCA have to announce that the North of England Cyclo-Cross Championships have been postponed.

Co-organisers Keith Murray & Cliff Featherstone along with other volunteers spent Saturday afternoon attempting to make the circuit & facilities safe for riders. Despite a day of sunshine the ground was still frozen and sheet ice meant dangerous conditions, with no parking and riders safety in mind a decision was made at 3pm not to run the event.

As you can see from the attached pictures, the ice had frozen to such a degree that the Facilities Management Company that run the Hetton Lyons Park (Springboard Leisure) had shut the car park with a thick layer of ice. The entry road requires access to the adjacent Quarry, there would be nowhere for competitors to park.

The current plan is to re-run the event on Saturday 3rd January 2009.

20081005_national_trophy_devon_jebb_250This Sunday sees the North of England Cyclo-Cross Championships, which this year visits the NE and the popular Hetton Lyons Country Park venue. Organisers Keith Murray & Cliff Featherstone promise a testing but enjoyable course for all.

Keith Murray himself will be one of the leading contenders for the Senior Men's event. However, he will face stiff opposition from a trio of the country's leading riders, Paul Oldham, last season's National Trophy series winner, Rob Jebb Pictured), one of the most consistent national event riders of the last couple of seasons and Stuart Wearmouth, who is currently sixth in this year's National Trophy. If you're looking for an outside bet for the title, perhaps the Thwaites brothers Scott and Mark are worth a punt.

The Junior race has the potential to be one of the best of the day, with the Yorkshire duo of Tom Moses and Paul Young likely to continue their fierce rivalry which has taken them to third and fourth in the national series this year.

One of the biggest fields is for the Vets' race. The race should see the classy Yorkshire duo Noel Clough and Chris Young battling for the title. However, Zepnat duo Matt Denby and Steve Barnes won't be too far away from the podium either.

The Youths is often the hardest race to call and with a big field of 30 riders, it looks like being a cracking event. Watch out for Yorkshire's Scott Woodhead and Joseph Moses and two of the NW's leading lights Jack Humphreys and Tom Armstrong, who should all be in the reckoning for this short, sharp race.
