Derbyshire Grant For Tom Last

The Derbyshire Dales district has recognised Tom Last as an emerging star in the world of MTB and Cyclo-Cross and has awarded him a bursary through the Derbyshire Talented Athlete Fund.

Tom was presented with a cheque for £300, which will be used to help him further his sporting career, contributing towards meeting training costs such as coaching fees, travel and equipment.

The 19 year old from Great Longstone near Bakewell, is this year committing fully to a road season and has a new team for 2008. He will ride for UK-based road race team Kinesis UK when racing begins in March, and hopes this will give him the strength and experience necessary to compete at a high level internationally at Cyclo Cross in the winter of 2008/9.

Tom worked as a member of the British Cycling Talent Team program from 2003 to 2005 where he achieved a great deal of success as a junior at National, European and World level, and established himself nationally in the U23 category in MTB and Cyclo Cross, being ranked fourth in MTB.
