Bibby Takes North of England Championships

Ian Bibby was a very convincing winner of the re-scheduled North of England Cyclo-Cross Championships, held at Hetton Lyons Country Park on 3 January. The SiS rider hasn't ridden a full 'Cross season, but has looked very sharp over the last couple of weeks and was able to put over a minute into runner-up Rob Jebb and almost 2 minutes into third placed Stuart Wearmouth. Scott Thwaites was fourth and the first under-23 home.
In the Veterans' race, Chris Young showed that he's returning to top form after a pre-Christmas cold by taking the title from Noel Clough, who finished some 20 seconds down. Kenny Johnson was close behind in third place. Paul Young made it a family double for the Youngs by taking the Junior title, half a minute clear of Rob Watson. Jessie Roberts took the women's title.
Earlier in the day, Yorkshire's Chris Barnes took the under-12 race from local rider Thomas Mein with Matthew Worton third. The Youth race went the way of Scottish visitor Grant Ferguson, with local rider Joseph Home coming in second, 20 seconds down. Third was Red Rose Olympic's Jack Humphreys.
