Inter Regional Cyclo-Cross Team Championships

More than 200 riders contested the cyclo-cross Inter Regional Championships at a muddy farmland course adjacent to Husbands Bosworth Gliding Centre in Leicestershire on Sunday.
SENIOR & JUNIOR RACE
East Midland retained their title in the Senior competiton with five riders packing the top ten. London's Jody Crawforth led from the gun, taking East Midland's Dave Collins with him, but Collins soon lost contact, and although he managed to hold the gap to bridgable proportions, the lighter London rider always looked comfortable and held on for a solo victory. However with Dan Booth, Steve Adams, Lee Shunburne and Jim Bryan all in the mix at the front of the race the host region proved unbeatable.

Crawforth's team mates Darren Barclay, Stuart Jones and Chris Ansell backed up well to take the runners up spot. The North East's Stuart Wearmouth plowed a lonely furrow in third place after escaping the attentions of Booth, and with teammate Keith Murray in sixth did enough to take the bronze medals.

VETERANS' RACE
East Midlands also claimed the veteran title with a solo win from Geoff Giddings, ably supported by John Shaw and Keith Sperry. All but one of the other riders in the top 10 hailed from Yorkshire, but with the northern frontrunners split between A and B teams they missed the title by a solitary point.

WOMEN'S RACE

The Eastern Team celebrate their win
Eastern were the surprise winners of the women's title. Annie Last was the individual winner by a huge margin, but second place for Rachel Moss, well supported by newcomer Faith Addison, veteran Susan Wood and Anna Buick gave a first ever regional title to the team.
YOUTH RACE
London retained the Youth trophy with Max Sykes, Taylor Johnstone and Hugo Humphreys all in the top five, and would have been even more dominant had fourth counter Alec Briggs not rolled a tub while leading, forcing him to run for more than half a lap. Luke Grivell-Mellor scored a fine solo win, helping West Midland to the silver medal.
