The fifth round of the Yorkshire Points Cyclo-Cross series, sponsored y Try-Cycling, attracted over 130 riders for the four races on the playing field course at Huddersfield's New College. Organiser Huddersfield RC's Andy Whitworth had put together a cracking course which maximised the potential of the venue with a good range of technical sections on the slippery grass banks which abound at New College, along with several draggy slogs up the heavy grassland.

The Senior race saw an excellent battle between Stuart Wearmouth, Mark Thwaites and Noel Clough. Wearmouth, winner of the first three rounds, started as a strong favourite, but Thwaites and Clough pushed him hard and all three looked well capable of winning the event during the opening laps. It was only in the latter stages that Wearmouth was able to finally break the elastic and ride away to a twenty second win over Thwaites, with Clough a further twenty seconds in arrears. Gary Wearmouth was fourth, with Chris Young fifth. Joel Davison was the first Junior in an impressive 7th place.

The Vets race saw a return to winning ways by Dave Stevens, who had to give best to Richard Binks in the previous round, but who made no mistake this time, pulling clear early in the race and not allowing Binks the opportunity to out-sprint him, as he did at Silcoates a couple of weeks ago. Binks was involved in a protracted battle with Steve Barron and Steve Barnes, who finished third and fourth behind him. H. Dawe was the first woman home in 23rd place.

The Youth Race was well supported with 18 riders and came down to a battle between rivals Tom Moses and Paul Young, with Moses prevailing in the end. Billy Harding took the under-12 race, which also boasted a good entry of 23 riders.
