Sutton Park in the Midlands (near Birmingham) was the venue for the 2006 British Cycling National Cyclo-Cross Championships where young and old riders competed for the right to be British Champion. British Cycling was there to bring you results, reports, photos and interviews from a great weekend's racing.

Day 1, Saturday, 7th January, 2006: Veterans & Youth Championships

 

2006 Cyclo-Cross NationalsAction from the opening day of the Cyclo-Cross Championships, where blizzard conditions contributed to a very tough day of racing for all involved. In the Veterans' race, there was victory for Adrian Timmis, and a fantastic battle for silver and bronze.

 

The Youth categories produced their usual committed battles, with Alex Paton overcoming recent form man Scott Thwaites. Roy Hunt continued his winning ways in the over-50 category, but not before he'd been given his toughest race of the season.... Report, Results & Pictures >>>>

 

 

 

Day 2, Sunday, 8th January, 2006: Junior & Elite Mens plus Women's Championships

 

David FletcherAction from the second day of the Cyclo-Cross Championships where a huge crowd witnessed some of the best racing for a long time as the Men, Women and Juniors raced flat out for the right to be called British Champion.  The day began with Helen Wyman (Team Fat Birds UK) dominating the Womens event.

 

Then, in the Junior race, David Fletcher (Newark Castle CC) was an ecstatic winner beating Stephen Adams (Sherwood CC) and Tom Last (Evans Cycles). The final race saw Discovery professional Roger Hammond win a three man sprint ahead of Liam Killen (Specialized) and National Trophy winner Jody Crawforth (Evans Cycles).  Report, Results and Pictures >>>>
