Andover BMX Make Progress With Brand New Track In The South West

News Posted 6th February 2009

20090209_tiverton_bmx_track_4Andover BMX Club are a Go-Ride Club working towards Clubmark accreditation and thanks to a successful Awards For All bid and support from the Test Borough Valley Council the club has begun work on developing their facility at the Depot Youth and Sports Complex at Charlton Andover. The club has kindly provided an update as to the progress of their work because as 2009 got under way it has been all systems go as the newly designed track including tarmac berms began to be built by Kye and Rik Forte.

“We have been up the track since Monday and have made some very good progress.

Wiltshire Concrete have come up trumps, not only supplying truck loads of soil, but getting 20 ton trucks on site in the most extreme conditions. Trust us to pick the worst day of the year to make a start! They supplied us with a highly experienced digger driver who basically shaped and made the whole track compact over the last 3 days. So a big thank you to Terry for completing that task so quickly.

20090209_tiverton_bmx_track_2Next job is to put in drainage all around the new jumps so that a little rain leading up to a race or training session doesn’t lead to a cancellation. Once this is done Rik Forte is going to come in to shape all the Jumps. At this point the Mendip dust will need laying , and we will need all hands on deck for a Big Work party because it will take a lot of muscle power to help lay the 45 tons of dust that will need laying.

We did have a work party pencilled in but that had to be cancelled because the ground was so sticky and cut up. Along with the possibility the next list of jobs to be done like concrete start hill pad and shuttering for the gravel paths.

Next week we are going to finish off the fence and put in the anti motor bike gate that Rik Forte has specially made for us in the fence line.

Big thanks once again for every one who turned up to help, Chris Mingo was doing 9 hour days at the track, then going back in to start work in the evenings, finishing at 1.00am….amazing!”

Once all the work is done Andover BMX hope to have one of the best BMX tracks in the South West region if not the country that will provide and excellent venue for their young riders to develop.
