Young Riders Shine In Grand Prix Series

News Posted: 11th June 2008

Astley & Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club ran a Go-Ride Grand Prix Series for young people to enjoy Cycle Speedway racing. The club decided to share their sport and invited riders from other North West Go-Ride Clubs to get some expert coaching and racing under their belts in this exciting discipline.

The event attracted 15 young people of differing abilities, ages and experience. The races were separated into U’10’s and U16’s and were handicapped, making for some fast, exciting racing. First year rider Ben Dickenson powered to victory and dropped only seven points over the three events. Laura Watson and Elliot Barnes also won their race whilst all the other riders demonstrated talent and class with Adam Watson being very consistent and Ryan Cranall, Jack Gibbs and other riders scoring heavily throughout the series.

The overall standings were:

Ben Dickenson 41, Adam Watson 30, Elliott Barnes 27, Adam Turnbull 22, Joel Partington 22, Stefan Whitelegg 19, Matthew Turnbull 18, Laura Watson 18, Adam Thompson 13, Jason Elliott 12, Hollie Barnes 11, Ben Keen 10, Luke Jamson 7, Jack Gibbs 5, Ryan Cranall 5.

The British Cycling Development Team would like to thank Astley & Tyldesley for promoting the Go-Ride Grand Prix’s and to all involved for providing so many young people with an opportunity to race Cycle Speedway.
