Summer Go-Ride Activities Up And Running In The East Midlands

News Posted 4th June 2008

The Go-Ride programme is growing rapidly in the East Midlands with two Nottingham-based cycle clubs launching sessions next week and others launching their activities this summer.

Sherwood Cycle Club are re-launching their Monday evening junior coaching sessions (7-8.30pm) at Carlton Le Willows School. Carlton Le Willows is a fantastic facility for off road cycling offering a wide variety of terrain to challenge the young rider whilst being able to deliver safe, challenging and fun activities in a traffic free environment. The club’s fully qualified level 2 coaches will be on hand providing excellent advice and hopefully helping to increase the number of club members who have gone on to be national champions.20080604_nottclarion_jersey200 The Nottingham Clarions have chosen Holme Pierrepont, National Water Sports Centre to be the venue for their Junior Go-Ride session every Wednesday at 7.00pm from 11th June onwards, meeting near the café at the Country Park. Once again this venue offers fantastic opportunities for off road cycling for young riders, with gently sloping grass bankings, wooded areas and a good selection of trails. Both these clubs offer excellent links to local cycle paths and countryside so all the family can get involved. East Midlands Go-Ride Coach Steve Crosland will be leading the sessions at Holme Pierrepont, and will also be supporting the Sherwood CC Club sessions. Beginners and established riders are welcome at both clubs.

UrbanAir BMX Club has recently registered to work towards Go-Ride Clubmark Accreditation. Based at the Bulwell Track in Nottingham, Daniel Clifford, Ryan Spick and Matt Ryder are dedicating their free time to deliver activities for young people. They have renovated a previously overgrown track that previously saw its heyday in the 1980’s before getting a new lease of life with UrbanAir BMX. Inspired by seeing 10 young people utilising the track in its overgrown state, the club got moving without hesitation to develop activities for young people with the track now being in excellent condition and having new jumps, bumps and berms for regional races back in 2004. Heanor Clarion CC are straight out of the starting blocks, running regular Go-Ride coaching sessions and races for young people in several disciplines. Circuit races are held at the former American Adventure Car Park for youths and a summer cross series running through May, June and July. The club is also running off road Go-Ride skill sessions meaning that even young people new to cycling will be able to have fun with Heanor Clarion CC.

For information on any of the clubs activities please don’t hesitate to call the Go-Ride team or the clubs themselves.
