Rhyl CC Achieve Go-Ride Clubmark Accreditation
News Posted 22nd January 2008
The Go-Ride programme saw some expansion this week in the awarding of the first Go-Ride Clubmark Accredited Club status to a Welsh cycling club. The first club in the country to achieve the status was Rhyl CC. The club is very active and will encourage cycling in both the sport and recreational areas, including Cyclo-Cross, Road, and Track.
It is the wide range of club activities that prompted the club to change their name to Rhyl Cycling Club from Rhyl Road Club in 1995 demonstrating the club's continued development and it is these varied activities that will challenge and stimulate young people and offer constant opportunity for participation in traffic free activities whatever aspect of cycle sport interests them.
Thanks to the work of some dedicated volunteers such as Jon Harland, Rae Hughes and Craig Needs the club have demonstrated a set of minimum operating standards that led to the club being rewarded with Go-Ride Clubmark Accredited Status. Rhyl CC demonstrated proficiency in Safeguarding Young People, Coaching, Club Management and Sport Equity and Ethics.
Rhyl CC will now be entitled to 7 free silver memberships for club officials, 100 free bronze memberships for new British Cycling members and free sponsorship fees. However more importantly the club will benefit from Go-Ride Clubmark Status in the raised profile they will now have in the cycling and wider communities. Their profile will be raised because the advertisement of their accreditation will give prospective and existing members confidence when choosing a club for themselves and their family due to the minimum operating standards the club has now demonstrated. Also the development of their youth section and the nurturing of young people’s interest in cycling and cycle sport through to adulthood will create a firm foundation for the club ensuring its sustainability.
British Cycling is delighted that Rhyl CC have achieved Go-Ride Clubmark Accreditation and being the first in Wales to achieve this status they are at the forefront of cycling’s development and join the body of clubs in England and Scotland who have also achieved Go-Ride Clubmark status in the nurturing of the next generation of cyclists and World Champions such as Geraint Thomas, Bradley Wiggins and Chris Hoy.
