Mossley CRT Clubmark Presentation
Presentation Date: 26th October 2007
Mossley CRT recently achieved Go-Ride Clubmark Accreditation. Friday 26th October saw one of the biggest highlights in the club’s history when guests from all over the surrounding area gathered at Mossley Hollins High School for the presentation. Special guests included The Right Honourable James Purnell who is Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress for Tameside and Ben Swift, an extremely promising rider of Great Britain’s U23 Olympic Academy, as well as many councillors and officers from the local borough.
The evening started with a power point presentation as the guests were entering the room, taking their seats in the large hall that had been decorated brilliantly by the volunteers at Mossley CRT. Once everybody had taken their seats the Master of Ceremonies for the evening led the proceedings. First of all introducing two young pupils from Dowson Primary School in Hyde. Over the past year Dowson Primary has struck up a fantastic partnership with the club, with Mossley CRT holding many sessions within the primary school grounds and lots of the promising young people from the school attending Mossley sessions at the track as well as club evenings. The school and club have also encouraged many riders to attend British Cycling holiday programmes over the past year, and PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) sessions were delivered at Dowson Primary over the summer term.

The two pupils led the gathered party through two fantastic power point presentations, about what Go-Ride has done for the school and club as a whole. After the girls had received some fantastic applause they re-took their seats. Next up was Alex Scoular, British Cycling's Regional Manager for the North West, Alex explained to the room how Mossley had handled the accreditation process well and spent many an hour meeting with members to discuss the next route forward.
The Right Honourable James Purnell was the next guest to take to the floor and being the local M.P. told the room how good it was to see a club in the region achieve Sport England’s Clubmark status. James very kindly made the presentation to the club. This was received by Ben Swift who rode with the club from 1999 for two years, before moving on to development programme that helped him to become the youngest winner of the King of the Mountains jersey in the Tour of Britain earlier this year.

After the formal ceremonies and photo opportunities the guests were treated to a fantastic display of racing by the pupils of Dowson and club members of Mossley CRT on CompuTrainers. A combination of Dowson pupils and young members of the club had presented a successful bid for additional funding to Tameside’s Youth Opportunities Fund which resulted in the purchase of the equipment being used. New Charter Housing Trust also made a substantial contribution for the purchase of the new bikes. This provided some brilliant entertainment for the guests and showed that Mossley CRT is certainly a club on the up.
