Matlock CC and Leicester Monarchs Cycle Speedway Club have become the latest brace of clubs in the East Midlands to achieve British Cycling’s prestigious Go-Ride Clubmark Accreditation.

The award incorporates Sport England's Clubmark standard, which is rapidly becoming the national kitemark for quality sports clubs. The clubs have been hard at work over the past year, in partnership with Jonathan Day (Regional Manager for the East Midlands), to complete the necessary paperwork, attend essential club development workshops and put into place fundamental coaching and progressive practices to ensure the clubs meet with Clubmark's minimum standards.
Go-Ride is a cycling activity programme for young people. Go-Ride integrates club development, youth participation, coaching activities and volunteer training into one single programme. It supports the creation of a network of school and community based cycling clubs that are appropriately trained and resourced to meet the challenge of integrating young people into a recognised club structure
Both Matlock CC and Leicester Monarchs Cycle Speedway Club have vibrant youth sections, with coaching and competitive activities taking place all year round. Matlock’s sessions run bi-weekly during most parts of the year. Leicester Monarch’s sessions are specific to the Cycle Speedway discipline and take place weekly throughout the year, if you would like to find out more then visit the club websites below:
The East Midlands region now boasts four accredited Go-Ride clubs and they are all striving to get ‘more young people, more active, more often’ and they are also playing a critical role in contributing to the long term sustainability of the cycling club infrastructure.
The East Midlands Development Team at British Cycling would like to congratulate both clubs and wish them continued success in the future!
