BMX World Championships - Rider Info

Event dates: 29 May until 1 June

This year's World BMX Championships are held earlier in the year due to BMX's inclusion in the 2008 Olympic Games. Olympic hosts China will also host this year's World Championships, although the venue in Taiyuan is several hours by train or car from Beijing. The deadline for challenge class registration is April the 11th. Elite riders have the opportunity of registering until May the 9th. All entries must come via British Cycling on the event entry form. No other method is permitted.

All GB competitors must wear the official Great Britain jersey. Any rider requiring a jersey must place their order with British Cycling by March the 25th. An order form is available by email: bmx@britishcycling.org.uk or send a cheque made payable to "British Cycling" for £35.00 and please ensure you include the jersey size you require.

For International qualification purposes the Elite rankings will take precedence over all other age based classes. In each class the following rules are applied:

  • The top 8 riders from the previous year?s rankings may be invited.
  • The first 6 riders from the current year?s rankings as at a pre determined deadline who are not included in the first 8 from the previous year, may be invited. That deadline is round 2.
  • Two Wild Card rides may be invited.
  • Only riders of proven ability at National level will be considered for invitation. If the Selectors consider there are insufficient riders of proven ability and experience to fill the available places they may elect not to "fill up" the allocation in that age group.
  • For Elite and Junior category riders, all riders must have scored at least 1 UCI point in the current qualification year to be eligible.

The schedule will not be precise until registration has closed. Until then, the following timetable is applicable:

Practice on Tuesday the 27th and Wednesday the 28th will be split into 5 groups of 1 hour 25 minute sessions between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm. Great Britain's allocation will be announced in May.

Thursday the 29th: Boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years.

Friday the 30th: Male and Female challenge categories aged 15 and over

Saturday the 31st: Elite and Junior

Sunday the 1st: Challenge and Championship Cruiser categories.
