Results East Anglia South Regional

Braintree BMX Club Report: Sunday saw the return leg of the inter-regional challenge 2008 for the South and East Anglia, with 298 riders travelling to Milton Keynes to race for their region. Amongst the riders from East Anglia, 34 from Braintree took part.

The day started with the cruiser riders and Oliver Cutmore doubled up on his classes competing in and winning the 13 - 15 cruiser class. Jason Clarke rode in the 16 - 29 class and had consistent but close thirds all day. In the 30 - 39 cruiser the class the 'Dads' showed their children how it is done and Stu Dixon had excellent moto results going into the semi-final with ease, where he finished second. Not far behind was Gavin Stokes who also went easily into the semi, finishing 6th therefore going into the B final where he finished fifth. Back on a bike and fresh from the World Championships in China was Mark Seaman in the 40+ class, fired up from his trip he won one of his motos and so went easily into the A final where he finished third.

On to the expert classes and the class of 'pocket rockets' saw Tom Stokes and Sydney Allen taking part in the 6 and under class. Both rode well in their motos but an unfortunate crash in Syd's second moto meaning he went into the B final which he then won easily. Tom went through into the A final where he finished eighth. Charlie O'Grady took part in the expert seven class and rode excellent moto's going into the A final where he finished sixth.

Three riders from Braintree took part in the expert nines and George Moret and Shane Redgewell both went through into the A final with George taking fourth and Shane on his tail in fifth. Jay Vora also took part in this class and went through to the B final where he finished fourth.

Lee Golder had a brilliant day in the ten's and was unbeaten in all four races. Not far behind was Shane Pavitt who finished in third. In the B final were Jedd Hurst who finished third and Jonathan Boreham who finished sixth.

Doing it for the girls in the female 10 - 12 class was Kelsey Dixon who finished fifth in all four races in her Grand Prix class. The male twelve's saw Taylor Andrews starting the day well and winning his first moto, following this with two thirds and a second, he finished second overall. Connah Wilson took part in the male thirteen class and went easily into the A final crossing the line in fourth. The fourteen's were represented by three riders from Braintree and Christopher Potter, riding his first complete regional series this year, had two wins out of three in his motos going into the A final where he finished in second. On his tail was Dexter Addington in fourth and Toby Bearne in fifth.

Upping the stakes in the competitive Male fifteen class were four top riders from Braintree, Will Elsey, Riess Harper, Oliver Cutmore and Leon Dixon. Will led the way for most of the day taking the win in the A with Riess hot on his heels in second. Oliver Cutmore was not far behind in seventh, with Leon taking second in the B final.

The male sixteen class saw a stunning rider from Tom Elvin who was completely unbeaten all day. Riding with the boys, Nicola Reed was also in this group - she went into the B final but an unfortunate fall saw her finish in third. In the older Masters class Braintree's three riders finished together in the B final with Steve Gilbert in fourth, Steve Hurst in fifth and Gavin Stokes in sixth. The female 13 - 15 class was mixed with the Junior Women and Natalie Miller had her work cut out but unperturbed finished fourth following good moto results.

The most competitive class of the day was the elite men which included the junior men and 19+ class mixed in, resulting in a huge class which went to quarter finals. Bradley Watts started his race day with three excellent wins in his motos, going into the quarter finals with ease and on through to the semi finals finishing third and so into the A final where he finished fifth. Matt Kirk and James Goodwin also took place in the large mixed group and both went into the quarter finals where unfortunate fifths saw them miss out on the semi's. They both then took part in the C final where Matt crossed the line second and James in fourth.

ROYSTON ROCKETS BMX RACING CLUB REPORT: Last Sunday saw the sixth round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series with the event also being the second round of the annual challenge between East Anglia and the South Regions. Following early rain the weather stayed generally dry although occasional winds gusting around the track made race conditions difficult for the riders. The event attracted just under 300 riders from the two regions who entertained the spectators with some very competitive racing in all the classes and at the end of the day the South maintained their slight lead in the Challenge to take the trophy for the second year in succession.

The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 18 riders competing with the Under 6 yr class getting the racing under way with Kelly Newall finishing in 5th place in the A final and in the 7yr class Royston riders packed A final with Josh Peters taking the win, Ted Dalleywater taking 5th and James King in 7th whilst in the B final, team mate Marmaduke Birt finished in 2nd. The 8yr class saw Oliver Snelling take 4th in the class B final and in A final Ethan Vernon took second ahead of team mate Daniel Blanche who finished in 5th. The 9yr class saw Aaron Dalleywater take another fine win in the A final with Bradan Blanche taking the 8th place slot and in the B final of the 10 year class Matthew Harris took 7th.

 

More success came in the 12yr class with Louis Burton taking 3rd place and in the 13yr. category Aston Blanche took another win to boost the regions points. In the 14's Ben Gutteridge took 7th in the A final and the 16yr class saw Wayne Gutteridge challenging for the top spot going into the second corner where loss of grip saw him slide out of contention to end up in 8th in the A final whilst in the B final, Katie Roberts took a hard earned win as she competed against the male riders on the fast track. In the 30-39 Cruiser class, Danny Ancell took 4th in the B final whilst in the 40+ class, Philip Burton finished in 6th in the B final.

The next event on the race calendar is the seventh round of the Regional Summer Series at the Royston clubs track in Burns Road on July 13th. The clubs own Summer Series has started with their regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston.
