Round 7 of the National Series saw riders from all over the country travel to the North East for the first national event in the region in many years. The track is set in acres of beautiful countryside, and the track is carved into a steep hillside, from the car park you can see the berms protruding from the ground like great monolithic structures awaiting to be carved by hungry riders, seeking glory. 6 straights, 5 turns, there were moves to be made, and it was Death or Glory time.
Not as well attendedas National events prior, the North East club pulled together and created a fantastic event, with excellent facilities, spectating, catering and of course a well groomed, fast and enjoyable track. If you didn't make it, you missed a pearler. Onto the racing!
Cruisers: Kye Whyte took to the cruiser for the first time this season in 12 and unders and he blitzed it! Tom Novis had to settle for 2 and George Hawker in the 3 spot. In 13-15's cruiser Ben Clarkson rode fantastic to take the win ahead of current national points leader Bradley Minns who had to take 2nd on the chin. Michael Hawker in 3 and Spencer Beagley in 4th. In 16-29 James Chadwick stepped onto his prototype Dialled Cruiser and walked away with the win. An excellent day's racing from that man on the delicious new cruiser. Daniel Pople took 2 and MTB corner king Kieron McAvoy in 3. Juan had one too many the night prior and snoozed to take 4th.
In 30-39 Daz Reidy stepped up and took his new cruiser to victory! Andy Shaw put up one hell of a fight and it was down to the wire for these guys! An excellent race! The big man Andy Restall took the 3rd spot. A shout to Neil Hopes who got an absolute FLYER out of the gate but couldn't make it last and he took 4th. In 40+ Anthony Fisher took the win ahead of old school style king John Stockwell in 2. Mark Seaman was in the Groove for 3 and Jeremy Hayes took 4th.
6 & Unders - Full of energy were these guys, and boy, did you need it for the 6 straights of action packed racing! Ryan O'Loughlin did the business ahead of the Brookes Brothers in 2 & 3 and Rotherham's Ben Warcup put together a good race to hold down 4th. Morgan Turner represented Chesterfield with his usual flair and rode home for 5th! Congratulations to Darcie Taylor also making the main and coming in the 6th spot ahead of quite a few of the lads - Well done that girl!
Male 7 Years - Preston's Finn Hall was yet again unstoppable at the Hartelpool event, he took the final with a strong lead over James Duckering in the 2 spot and EA Revell Racings Josh Peters in 3rd. Jack Warcup after a morning of being poorly still rode strong and bought it home for the 6th spot in the main.
Male 8 Years - Only 5 riders in the class today, where was everyone!? Ethan Vernon representing EA Revell took the win ahead of the ever-smiling Urbanair rider Ethan Godden, who seems to perform better and better on every outing on his bike! Jake Nuttall riding for Ghostbikes.com in the 3 spot.
Male 9 Years - Kye Whyte did the business again for AlansBMX in this class, he rode super strong all day and lead the final ahead of Profile's Harley Taylor in 2 and Aaron Dallywater in the 3 spot.
Female 7-9 Years - Blaine Ridge Davis looked at home on the track despite travelling all the way from Peckham! Team mate Katurah Davidson took the 2 spot with Elizabeth Keating in 3. Shout out to Lauren "Warlock" Stewart for making the main and taking 5th!
Male 10 Years - Paddy Sharrock took the win today in this class ahead of Grooves Lee Golder and Local Lad Aiden Ditchburn. Reece Brownson was leading the final and looking good for the win but a 2nd berm swoop from Tom Novis saw Reece put back 2. Paddy Smoothed his way to the lead down the 3rd straight where Novis attempted to stick a move on him, Novis went down taking Reece with him. Paddy had the track dialled in he took the win and basked in glory. Urbanair duo Alex Campbell and Tyler Day also put in a great rides all day and took 5th and 6th respectively!
Female 10 Years - Isabelle Ferrada was on point all day long, and come final time, she had it locked from beginning to end. Shamika Shaw took the 2 spot ahead of Urbanair's Beth Campbell in 3.
Male 11 & 12 Years - One of the busiest classes of the weekend with 24 riders taking part. Quillan Isidore did what he does best again and lead for the entire day. Bailey Ridge-Davis got the 2nd position and chased Quillan all the way to the line. Jack Clarke took the 3 spot followed up by Harry Gray-Blest in 4th.
Male 13 & 14 Years - Again one of the bigger classes this weekend with 25 riders, Jacob Roberts did the business all day long over local lad Adam Smith, and looked to be on the button to take the win in the final, however a first turn pile up saw the leaders down and Rotherham's Eliot Pullen come through clean and take the top spot. He was chased (and very almost caught) by Ben Clarkson, but he held his own and took the win! A fantastic race! Ben got the 2 spot followed by Bradley Minns in 3.
Female 13 - 15 Years - Ashby Gibson is the one to beat in this class, and they just couldn't do it! She won all day long and in the final made it look easy. Georgia Rase rode fantastic and took the silver ahead of Bethan Hallett in 3.
Male 15 & 16 Years - Like many of the classes the results were very mixed up and the 15 & 16s were no exception, it has been a long while since we've seen Dan McBride in a B final, but an unclip in his semi saw him dead last into turn one, a valiant effort to claw back positions but it wasn't to be. This allowed Jason Fay to take the win, and extend the gap in points at the top of the table. William Elsey rode super strong all day and took the 2 spot with Jonathon Hastings getting all Rockstar for 3rd. Thomas Elvin is all about A mains now and he finished 5th on the day.
Junior Male - Luke Tamblyn was on fire! He was unstoppable in his motos and come main time he fired up the boosters and was gone! Bradley Watts rode well all day but stuffed up the final, a helmet drop kick was in order, and it was served quickly and effectively! Adam Brazil took the 2 spot with Levi Ashley in 3rd. Good to see Farran back in action and making the A main to boot, finishing 6th.
Junior Female - Only 8 of the girls, so it meant grand prix action, every moto counts, so the girls went at it, there were bodies everywhere most of the time, Emily James going low in the turns and ending up on her hide, Lucy Hale took a win, and Julie Cary was loving the dirt turns - Old School all the way! The pre race "squat" warm up must've helped! However on the day Miss Consistent Charlotte Green took the win, Lucy in 2, Julz in 3 and Emily in 4.
19+ Only 13 riders in this normally busy class, but it was 13 high fliers, so no easy motos, and with no semi, it was do or die time! Scott Waterhouse didn't have the best days racing and ended up in the B final, he took the win ahead of Pinnock though and redeemed himself a bit. Only a bit though. In 19+ the old man, Flemtense, took the win ahead of the almost as old man Daz FAF Reidy. Dan Hodge got his result of the season in 3rd and Chadwick played it cool in 4th. Your reporter, took the 5th spot, and Ryan Yearsley making mains like it ain't no thing inn 6th. Tom Palmer and Lee Baker were rolling about in the dirt in one of the many turns!
Masters - Grand Prix also in this class, which made for some exciting close cut racing! Dave "skidmark" Ives was busting the moves left right and centre, and stuck in some wins, but Jessop got out in front and held it down to take the win on the day. Great riding from Jai Kemp in 3rd and Rotherham's Wayne Foster representing in 4th! Where was Paddy?! This track was made for him and his move busting!
Elite Men - A huge build up on the messageboards for the Elite Racing at Hartlepool. The winner secured themselves a spot to go at it along with Kelvin, Liam P and Bloomy in Aigle for a chance to race in Beijing. But the racing was a demolition Derby of disappointment. Only 6 riders showed, one, Harry Britt all the way from US of A. On the grapevine I heard a few had boycotted the event after the treatment of Kelvin in the run up to the worlds!
So racing commenced and the motos were pretty hectic, Tuffy crashed so hard in moto 1, staying on the ground much longer than Tuffy ought to, he broke his wrist and banged himself up good, so he was out. After the motos the three 5 man mains were just carnage, moves and take out attempts in every corner. It looked like Britt, then Whyte, but the man of the hour was the consistent Laurence Mapp. He secured the spot in Aigle, Dan Whyte in 2 and Harrison in 3.
A great event, put on by a fantastic pro-active club. It's a shame it wasn't better attended, but I'll definitely be going back there for some dirt turns and tyre burns!
