Race Report: Braintree BMX Club
Peterborough were the hosts for round 3 of the East Anglian Winter BMX race series on Sunday and 22 riders from Braintree braved the puddles and mud to improve their current rankings within this series.

The youngest age group - formula 5 - saw Tom Stokes riding well in his moto's and as a result going into the A final where he finished seventh.

Formula 4 saw Shane Redgewell taking the win in one of his moto's, again going into the A final with ease where he finished a close and excellent third. Further down the pack was Jonathan Boreham who finished third in the B final.

Competing in formula 3 were Lee Golder, Shane Pavitt, Paige Elvin and Kelsey Dixon with Lee and Shane making the main final and finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Paige and Kelsey went into the B final and also finished fifth and sixth.

The large Formula 2 group saw six riders from Braintree fighting for a place in the semi-finals and all making it through. Oliver Cutmore, Nicola Reed and newcomer Toby Bearn all went through to the A final with Oliver and Nicola fighting all the way to the line and Oliver crossing in third and Nicola in fourth. Toby was further down the pack and finished in eighth. The B final saw Taylor Andrews finish in second, Natalie Miller in fifth and Leon Dixon in sixth.

The large group of formula 1 riders also went to the semi-finals and a fall in the first moto for Bradley Watts, Matt Kirk and Richard Whiting meant they had their work cut out to secure that place in the semi. Bradley secured his place by winning the next three motos and then went on to win the semi. Tom Elvin, Will Elsey and Mark Seaman all went easily into the semi and secured their place in the A final. Bradley faltered on the gate with the new random system but came through the pack with style to finish second. Tom was on his tail in third, Will in fourth and Mark in fifth.

Richard Whiting, Riess Harper, Gavin Stokes and Stu Dixon all made it to the semi-finals and then into the B final with Richard finishing fourth, with Riess on his tail in fifth, Gavin came in seventh and Stu in eighth. Matt was unfortunately injured in the first moto and unable to complete the meeting.

Round 4 of this series takes place in Braintree on February 17th with everyone is welcome. Registration closes at 11:30. The next Braintree club meeting is the 3rd February with racing at 11:00. For more information check out the website at www.braintreebmx.co.uk

Race Report: Royston Rockets BMX Club

Last Sunday the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club members made the short trip up the A1 to Peterborough for the third round of the East Anglian Winter Series at the Peterborough Phantoms' track. The forecasted rains kept away and although wet and sticky in places the track held up well for the riders who had travelled from across the country to have the chance of a good days racing.

The youngest riders take part in a class known as 'Formula 5' and are nominally 7 years and under. Royston's Marmaduke Birt finished well with 4th in the A final and Loui Foreman took the win in the class B Final. Royston had no less than six riders in Formula 4, which is a class based on 8-10 year olds, with Zak Foreman taking 4th and Daniel Blanche in 8th in the A final whilst in the B final Matthew Harris took the win in his first "away" race, with Josh Peters in 4th just ahead of team mate James King in 5th and Ted Dalleywater in 7th, all of whom were riding up a class due to their successes in earlier rounds of the series. Ethan Vernon took the win in Formula 3 (11-13years) which means at the next round he will be riding up two classes whilst in Formula 2, for 14-16 year old riders, James Handleigh took 6th place in the slippery conditions with Louis Burton taking 4th in the B Final - again both Royston riders were riding up one class from their normal category. The final class on the track was Formula 1 for riders over 17 years old, which was the largest and fastest class of the day with James Dalleywater taking 7th in the class A final and Darren Foreman finishing in 6th in the B final.

This was the third round of the series which is running throughout the winter months, the next round being at Braintree on February 17th. The Rockets are holding practice sessions at their track in Burns Road where visitors can try their hand at riding round the track as well as having a chat to club members about the sport. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
