Braintree BMX Club Report

The first two rounds of the National BMX race series took place in Cheddar at the weekend and Braintree BMX Club was represented by twenty of its top riders. Round 1 on Sunday started well and the riders looked really good following their training and practice from the day before.

The youngest rider from Braintree was Josh Peters who rode in the 6 and under class at his first ever National meeting and achieved fantastic results in his motos with two wins out of three, so going into the A final with ease however a nasty crash saw him finish eighth.

The expert eight group saw George Scwedt-Moret win his first moto and sail through his semi-final easily. He also went into the A final where he finished seventh. Also, new to National racing was Lee Golder who rode in the expert nine group and with good moto results went into the B final where he finished second.

The large combined 11/12 age group saw Taylor Andrews have his work cut out and despite good moto results missed out on a semi-final. The even larger combined 13/14 group saw a first National win for Matthew Kirk who was almost unbeaten all day after sailing through his quarter and semi-finals. Further down the pack in the same group was Riess Harper who had excellent moto results and also sailed through his quarter final, however he just missed out on the A final with a fifth in his semi, so he went into the B final where he finished sixth. Leon Dixon and Will Elsey also took part in this group but went out in the quarter-finals and Ryan East and Oliver Cutmore both missed out on the quarters.

The even larger 15/16 group saw Bradley Watts riding fantastically well in his motos and winning his quarter-final going into the semi-final easily where he finished a comfortable second, so into the A final where a very close finish left him in fourth place. Further down the pack was Tom Elvin, riding his first National, had good moto results and went into the quarter final where he missed out on a place in the finals by a close fifth.

Riding up a class in the Junior Men was Talent Team member Steven Sewell who really had to work hard to get to the semi-finals following a fall in one of his motos. However, a second in his semi-final saw him into the A final where he finished a close and excellent third. Also competing in this group was Jason Clarke who rode well in his motos but missed out on a semi-final.

The nineteen and over class saw Shaun Doherty taking part and finding himself in a dreaded runoff for the quarterfinals where he just missed out.

The only female rider from Braintree was Nicola Reed whose day started badly with a crash in her first moto, however unperturbed she returned to complete and finished sixth in the A final of the Junior Women.

The cruiser classes saw Tom Elvin doubling up and riding the 13 - 15 cruiser class which was a grand prix class and excellent results saw him finish second. The cruiser 16 - 29 class saw Lee East riding really well despite a fall in his first moto, and went into the semi-finals easily but just missed out on the A final. An unfortunate crash in the B final saw him finish seventh. Jamie Clarke also took part in this class but missed out on the semi-finals. The 40+ cruiser class saw Dominic Burnet getting good moto results but missing out on the A final and finishing sixth in the B.

So with nearly all the riders competing on both days it was dinner and an early night in preparation for day two on Monday and round 2 started well for young Josh Peters in the 6 and under class who had 2 wins in his motos and wen ton to finish third in the A final. George Scwedt-Moret in the 8's worked really hard in his motos to take his place in the semi-final where he finished fourth and so went into the A final where he crossed the line in sixth.

In the 9;s Lee Golder also appeared to have the track sorted and got himself into the A final easily where he where he finished sixth. The male 11/12 group saw Taylor Andrews having to work extra hard after missing his first moto because of a puncture, but it wasn't quite enough and he missed out on a semi-final.

The male 13/14 class saw the same six riders competing and Matt Kirk had yet another good day sailing through his motos, quarters and semi to finish third in the A final. Not far behind him was Riess Harper who just made the semis and finished seventh in the A. Oliver Cutmore, Leon Dixon and Ryan East all went through to the quarter-finals but just missed out on the semis. Will Elsey also took part in this group but missed out on the quarters.
